Hamoris Lian -Timor
Reviving the Sounds of Timor
Hamoris Lian Timor (Reviving the Sound of Timor) captures the songs, music, dances and spoken stories of Timor Leste. From the soaring mountains of Maubisse and Letefoho to Balibo, Dare and the coastal city of Dili, the project has recorded and filmed a rich tapestry of Timor Leste’s culture. Whether it be preserving ancient customs, sharing the heart wrenching stories of women who survived the long and tiring struggle for independence or experiencing the soaring melodies of songs of life, love and challenges, our vision is to showcase the incredibly beautiful and unique music and culture of Timor.
The project draws on leaders with significant familial and cultural links to Timor Leste and is supported by the strength of the Wantok Musik Foundation’s sustained and longstanding relationships with the Timor Leste artistic community. It follows on from a collaboration by the same partners- Maubere Timor- which involved the recording, release and performance of important historical resistance songs by Timorese veterans.
In the first half of 2025, a selection of musicians from the Hamoris Lian project will travel to Australia to perform at Victorian Council events. For many, this will be their first time going overseas. A further two concerts will be held in Dili and Maubisse, bringing together all the artists who have been involved in the Hamoris Lian Project. A Hamoris Lian album and accompanying short film will be released in 2025.
This project is funded by the Australian Office of the Arts and Creative Victoria.
