Airileke (Irie-Leke) is an artist and producer with a reputation for leading innovative music projects such as DRUM DRUM, Guerilla Step and the Wantok Musik Foundation. The release of his debut album ‘Weapon of Choice’ in November 2012 is the culmination of his life-long immersion in the sounds of Melanesia, creating a new hybrid music community between Australia and the Pacific.

His unique sound melds futuristic ideas and traditional beats that hark back to ancient Melanesian culture. Sample based hip-hop production, fierce log drumming, Papuan chants, atmospheric sound-scapes and samples of West Papua’s Free Papua Movement (OPM) delve into one of the region’s darkest stories—the oppression and illegal occupation of West Papua. This is the new sound of urban Melanesia.

Weapon Of Choice is a fascinating record, bringing together beats with a back story.
